Tom’s musical instruction began with the acoustic guitar when he was 8 years old. He was later introduced to percussion instruments in school, and played in the concert orchestra and marching band. After changing high schools, his responsibilities expanded to include the electric guitar in the dance band, sousaphone, and occasional vibes and xylophone.
In the 1990’s his musical activities reemerged. Soon, Tom was playing multiple instruments in two American Civil War reenactment bands, performing about 25 concerts annually and contributing to two CD’s. During that time, he was introduced to the 5-string, open back banjo and greatly enjoys his playing time with it.
Tom is currently a member of an instrumental trio specializing in standards tunes for various events and is active with local jam sessions. He is an experienced teacher of child and adult beginning musical instruction for the guitar and clawhammer style banjo, and has been with the Cady School of Music since 2007.
